Fans have continued to pay tribute to beloved Gone Fishing dog Ted as the much-loved pup appeared on BBC Two tonight in a repeat of the popular fishing series. Since his passing earlier this year, one viewer shared an emotional tribute online, writing: "Run free at Rainbow Bridge Ted and don't forget your briefcase! We all loved you on #GoneFishing and you'll never be forgotten!" They added: "It won't be the same watching without your characterful presence pal, but I know you'll be looking down and supervising from that other place." Meanwhile another wrote: "RIP Ted."
Ted's role on the show
Ted, the Patterdale Terrier cross, became a familiar and much-loved presence on Mortimer & Whitehouse: Gone Fishing, regularly accompanying Bob Mortimer and Paul Whitehouse on their fishing trips. Ted sadly died earlier this year, with the news of his passing announced in April 2026. His owner and the show's executive producer, Lisa, previously described Ted as a "much-loved family pet" and a treasured companion to Bob and Paul.
She recalled how Ted took his newfound fame in his stride and loved spending time along the riverbanks, where he was known for stealing jammy dodgers from Bob and bait from Paul. Lisa said Ted would be "sorely missed" both at home and on screen, adding: "We'll never forget him."
Recognition and tributes
Ted first appeared on the BBC Two series in 2020 during its third series and quickly became a favourite among viewers. His special place on the show was recognised during the 2025 Christmas special in Cornwall, when he received a Lifetime Achievement Award. Bob Mortimer also paid tribute to Ted following his death, describing him as "the best companion and the greatest little chum", while Paul said his old friend "wasn't a dog, he was a species all of his own."
Ted's appearance in tonight's repeat has given fans another chance to see the much-loved dog on screen, with viewers remembering the distinctive character who became such an important part of the show. In the episode, Bob shares his concerns about Ted as he felt he may have been affected by the extremely warm weather. Bob said to his co-star Paul: "God, it's warm. I worry about Ted."
