Bob Mortimer shared his worries for beloved dog Ted during a repeated episode of Mortimer & Whitehouse: Gone Fishing, before Ted's sad passing earlier this year.
Ted, the much-loved Patterdale Terrier cross who won over viewers' hearts on the BBC Two programme, sadly died earlier this year, with the news released in April 2026.
Ted often joined stars Bob and Paul Whitehouse on their fishing pursuits around the country. In series five, episode five, which was repeated on BBC Two tonight, Paul and Bob enjoyed a fishing day in Surrey and acknowledged just how warm it was.
Bob's concerns for Ted in the heat
Bob said: "God, it's warm. I worry a bit about Ted." Paul replied: "Yeah. It's a bit extreme."
Bob agreed and added: "It can't be easy for him! He's wearing a fur coat, aint he!" Trying to make Ted more comfortable, Bob brought cooler shelter for the little pup.
Ted's rescue and rise to fame
Ted was rescued from a Surrey dog shelter in spring 2013, aged around six months, and went on to live with Lisa Clark, the show's executive producer.
The pooch first appeared on the BBC Two programme in 2020, during Series 3, and quickly became a firm favourite with fans. His special place in the hearts of viewers was recognised during the 2025 Christmas special, filmed in Cornwall, when he received a Lifetime Achievement Award.
Tributes following Ted's passing
At the time of his death, Lisa, Executive Producer, and Ted's owner said: "Ted was a much-loved family pet as well as a treasured companion to Paul and Bob on Gone Fishing.
"He took fame in his little stride and loved nothing better than messing around on the riverbanks, nicking jammy dodgers from Bob and bait from Paul.
"He will be sorely missed both at home and on screen. We'll never forget him. He is survived at home by Bo the Briard."
Meanwhile, Bob Mortimer said: "So very, very sad. Lovely Ted, the best companion and the greatest little chum. Going to miss him so much.. and away boss."
Paul Whitehouse added: "Bye bye Ted old friend. He wasn't a dog, he was a species all of his own. He's gone to the great briefcase emporium in the sky. We will really miss you mate."
Following the news of Ted's passing, fans have continued to share their thoughts and tributes online. Taking to X, one viewer wrote: "I hope they do a special for Ted, there must be some good outtakes of him on #GoneFishing." Another also wrote: "RIP Ted. You were great."
