Channel 4 has confirmed that Gogglebox will return for its 28th series on Friday, September 4 at 9pm. The popular show has become a staple of British television, with viewers tuning in as much for the personalities on the sofas as the programmes being discussed.
The show features ordinary households giving their unfiltered thoughts on everything from dramatic plot twists to reality TV rows, major news stories and unexpected moments. It has become one of Channel 4's most recognisable programmes, with its households often becoming as popular with viewers as the shows they are watching.
The Malone Family and Other Returning Faces
The Malone family have been a major part of Gogglebox for years and have become firm favourites with viewers. The family originally featured Tom and Julie Malone alongside their sons Tom Jr and Shaun. They first joined Gogglebox in 2014 and have remained closely associated with the show ever since.
Tom Jr stepped away from the show in 2021, while Julie and Tom have continued appearing alongside other members of the family. The family have also shared glimpses of their lives away from filming, including their love of dogs. Fans are still awaiting confirmation that they will be back for the latest season.
New and Established Households
Other long-running households include Jenny and Lee, Ellie and Izzi, Pete and Sophie, and several others. The programme has built up a huge collection of households since it first arrived on Channel 4 in 2013, with some cast members having been part of the show for more than a decade.
Five new households were introduced last year, including Glasgow friends Jake and Calum, the Gordon family, Cotswolds couple Andrew and Alfie, Yorkshire duo Sara and Lara and Edinburgh pair Rosie and Susie. Jake and Calum quickly became popular with viewers after joining the programme. It has not yet been confirmed which families will be returning and whether Channel 4 will introduce any further households for series 28.
How to Watch the New Series
Series 28 of Gogglebox will premiere on Friday, September 4 at 9pm on Channel 4. Previous episodes are also available through Channel 4's streaming service, giving viewers the chance to catch up with their favourite households before the new series begins.
