Glasgow is being transformed into Gotham City once more as final preparations are underway for filming of The Batman: Part II. The Batmobile was spotted in the city on Monday (August 17), with footage showing the iconic vehicle entering an underground car park believed to be on St Vincent Street.
Filming Locations and Preparations
Filming for the highly anticipated film, starring Robert Pattinson as The Batman, will take place in several locations around the city this month, with road closures expected in the Newton Street and North Street area. Photos taken in Glasgow city centre on Tuesday (August 18) showed bus timetables being changed to list services in Gotham City, and New York-style awnings being placed on building fronts.
Gotham Police SWAT vehicles were also spotted in preparation for filming, alongside an American-style Gotham Police car and large lorries.
Previous Batman Films in Glasgow
It's not the first time Glasgow has been transformed into Gotham City. The city previously appeared in Christopher Nolan's 2012 film The Dark Knight Rises with Christian Bale, as well as The Batman (2022).
Directed by Matt Reeves, the latest instalment of the Batman franchise sees the return of Robert Pattinson as the superhero, alongside Colin Farrell as Oz Cobb, Jeffrey Wright as James Gordon, and Andy Serkis as Alfred Pennyworth. The star-studded cast also includes Scarlett Johansson, Jayme Lawson, and Charles Dance, although it's not known if the stars will be in the city to film the scenes.
Release and Road Closures
The film is the follow-up to Reeves's 2022 The Batman, which brought in more than $772 million (£570 million) at the global box office. The movie is set to be released in cinemas on February 18, 2028.
Filming restrictions in Glasgow will affect multiple roads over the next few months. The following roads will be disrupted between these dates and times:
- Newton Street car park - from 6am on August 7 until 11:59pm on September 29
- Newton Street between A814 Expressway and Broomielaw - from 6am on August 29 until 6am on September 9
