A nurse from Newcastle, Tyne and Wear, claims she has captured a ghostly face watching her three-year-old son play in the garden, and friends are urging her to move out. Carmel Smith, 31, has lived in the house since 2019 and says she has frequently heard noises and seen apparitions that make her believe the property is haunted.
Chilling Discovery in the Garden
While taking photos of her son playing outside, Smith noticed something unusual behind him. Upon zooming in, she saw what appears to be a face peering from a window, which she believes is a ghost. “This ghost was looking at my son in the garden, that was quite freaky,” she said. “He has two eyes and a nose and everything, it's like he is sitting on the table with his hands on his chin, looking in the garden. I just happened to zoom in on the window.”
Unexplained Noises and Shadows
On the same day, Smith heard floorboards creaking in the nursery while lying in bed. Checking the baby monitor camera, she saw a shadow moving across the landing. “I was lying in bed when I heard the floor boards creaking. I looked at the child's cam at the same time I heard the floor boards. The cam went active and I saw the shadow. I saw a shadow as if someone was walking on the landing,” she recounted.
Screaming on Camera
Last summer, Smith went on holiday and set up a camera to watch her guinea pigs. Reviewing the footage, she was shocked to hear what sounds like screaming at 2am. The video shows the guinea pig being startled by a faint scream. “I was on holiday and I have a video of the guinea pigs and someone screaming. I feel like there is something, it is haunted. The screaming on the camera was frightening,” she said. “People are saying that this can be easily explained, others say 'oh my God, I just got chills.' I have not edited them.”
Neighbors Blame Previous Owner
Smith’s neighbors believe the ghost is that of a previous owner. “A man lived here before the previous owners, my neighbours are convinced it's [him] who used to live here,” she said. While her friends are urging her to move out, Smith does not feel threatened. “I'm not threatened at all by it. I've lived here since 2019. I don't feel a threat from whoever it is. I didn't like it, I was a bit frightened,” she added.
Past Encounters
Smith claims she used to see a man standing above her bed at night until she told him to go away. “I've always seen things, there's been a few nights I woke up in bed and I saw a man standing above my husband. I've seen him in a scarf, he has a large nose. I told him to go away and I haven't seen him since,” she said. Despite the eerie events, Smith remains calm, stating, “I do believe in the afterlife. I've always thought there has to be something. There's lots of things that happen that can't be explained.”
