BBC Morning Live presenter Gethin Jones has been a familiar face on television for years, but many may not know about his famous ex-fiancée. The 48-year-old Welsh TV host was engaged to opera singer Katherine Jenkins, and he has since spoken candidly about the emotional aftermath of their breakup.
Gethin Jones' Career Journey
Gethin Jones began his television career on Welsh language channel S4C, presenting children's programmes such as Popty, Mas Draw, and Uned 5. In 2005, he became the 31st presenter of the beloved BBC children's show Blue Peter. In 2020, he took on the role of presenter for BBC's weekday magazine show Morning Live, broadcast from Salford. He regularly appears alongside Helen Skelton, Michelle Ackerley, Gaby Roslin, and Janette Manrara. Gethin has also appeared on Celebrity MasterChef, comedy drama Stella, and competed in Strictly Come Dancing season 5.
Engagement to Katherine Jenkins
Gethin met Welsh opera star Katherine Jenkins in 2007 while he was competing on Strictly Come Dancing. The couple announced their engagement in February 2011, but by December of the same year, they confirmed they had decided to part ways. Speaking on Tom Bryant's Outdoors in Mind podcast, Gethin revealed: "I was engaged and then breaking up, afterwards, or even during that period, it was just awful... I definitely had a bad bout of depression during that time." He added: "It was horrible... a lot of what I read about myself wasn't right." Gethin sought therapy to cope, stating: "I saw someone, I had therapy for a couple of years and I still do my homework on that."
Katherine Jenkins has since married American painter Andrew Levitas in 2014, and the couple have two children together.
Past Romances and Rumours
Three years after his split from Katherine, Gethin had a short-lived relationship with former TOWIE personality Lucy Mecklenburgh in August 2014. Lucy later described it as "bad timing for both of us." Gethin also dated model Katja Zwara in 2017 and was rumoured to have been linked with First Dates waitress Cici Coleman, though neither confirmed a relationship.
In recent years, speculation has arisen about a potential romance between Gethin and his Morning Live co-presenter Helen Skelton. However, both have denied the rumours. In December 2025, Helen clarified: "We just work together, we are not together. No, no, no. We are just work friends." Gethin told The Sun: "We are very supportive of each other, we like to look out for each other. I think that's fair to say on and off camera."
