Spice Girls fans have speculated that Geri Halliwell Horner has blocked Melanie Brown on Instagram after a 30th anniversary post for the song Wannabe left Scary Spice untagged. Geri, 53, shared a black-and-white throwback image on social media celebrating the milestone of their debut single, released in 1996, which reached number one in 37 countries.
Anniversary post sparks fan theories
Geri captioned the post: "30 Years of Wannabe …Thank you to my beautiful spice sisters @victoriabeckham officialmelb @melaniecmusic @emmaleebunton And thank you to the fans for joining us #FriendshipNeverEnds …" Notably, she mentioned Mel B but failed to add an '@' symbol to tag her. Fans immediately questioned the omission. "Did you forget the tag @officialmelb?" asked one commenter. "Can you tag Mel B correctly? @gerihalliwellhorner" asked another.
Some concluded that one of them must have blocked the other. "Who blocked who?" asked one commenter. Another jokingly appealed to Geri's assistant Pippa Beng: "Pippa unlock Mel B please!" Geri is not following Mel B on Instagram, nor is Mel following Geri. However, Mel did tag Geri in her own post celebrating 30 years of Wannabe, captioning it: "Zigazig ahhhh Yipppeeee" and tagging all bandmates and the Spice Girls account.
Previous social media blunders
This is not the first time Geri has made a social media mistake regarding Mel B. For Mel's 49th birthday, Geri shared a throwback photo but accidentally included a private message to her assistant in the caption. The caption read: "Sent images to Pippa and this wording asked her to tweak where needed. Happy Birthday @officialmelb! Hope you have an amazing day!" It was live for 24 minutes before being hastily changed.
In 2024, the Spice Girls reunited at Victoria Beckham’s 50th birthday, performing their hit Stop with original choreography. However, tensions have since surfaced. Mel B admitted she was kicked out of the group's WhatsApp chat after repeatedly suggesting a 30th anniversary reunion. During an appearance on The Jonathan Ross Show in late 2025, she said: "We are wanting to do something and we are but I can't really tell you because I'll get kicked out of the WhatsApp group again … I'm probably going to get told off!"
Fractured relationships within the group
Geri and Mel reportedly fell out in 2019 after Mel said on Piers Morgan's Life Stories that they had sex while in the band. Mel added: "She’s going to hate me for this because she’s all posh in her country house and her husband. But it’s a fact." Mel C recently reflected on their fractious relationship while speaking to Louis Theroux, noting they were "really great mates" but if they fell out, it affected everyone because they were both so outspoken.
The Mirror has reached out to Geri Halliwell Horner for comment.
