Love Island's George Knight has addressed claims that he is not focusing on his family after his villa exit. The 28-year-old footballer entered the latest series of ITV's dating reality programme as one of the first bombshells and formed part of an early dramatic twist alongside Yasmin Hadlow. They were given the task by presenter Maya Jama to select two Islanders to boot out. Viewers also witnessed him getting cosy with more than one fellow contestant, including Robyn. However, after just under a week, he decided to quit the villa early. His departure wasn't broadcast in an episode, but viewers watched Lorenzo Alessi inform the rest of the group about George's choice to leave.
George's Reasons for Leaving
George later featured on The Sun's Showbiz Fix podcast and disclosed further details about why he walked away. He revealed that his parents had contacted producers, and they permitted him to speak with them about developments back home. He added: "It is all very private. But it was a health concern with a member of the immediate family."
Responding to Critics
He has now spoken out once more, this time in response to those slamming him for recent behaviour. Some fans have noticed that George, despite whatever is happening at home, remains highly active, posting pictures from events and video partnerships with brands on social media. George has now responded to these criticisms and fired back at those who take issue with his choices. He outlined his current life philosophy in a brief video interview with Capital FM, which was posted on their Instagram page. The clip was captioned: "Love Island's George addresses claims he's 'everywhere but with family' after shock villa exit."
Balancing Family and Interests
In the footage, George discusses how he is balancing his family duties with pursuing his other interests. He says: "The motto in the Knight household is life continues. We crack on... I still pursue and do things that I want to do, that I'm interested in, which naturally you might see because they're not things that I like to do in my room on my own." Insisting he won't go into hiding, he confirms he'll be heading to Box Park for England's opening World Cup group match this Wednesday. He maintains that he remains reachable for a select few people and nothing else has altered. Finally, he delivers a blunt message to anyone who takes exception, declaring: "I'm still going to go out, I'm still going to do loads of shopping and see my friends, go to events, watch the football... So I'm balancing it all. Anyone that's got an issue with that can do one."
