Gemma Atkinson delivered a cheeky response after a listener asked what she's famous for while she co-hosted her Lost In Translation podcast with fiancé Gorka Marquez. The Hits Radio host read out the comment: "What is Gemma Atkinson famous for?"
Gorka's Tribute and Gemma's Comeback
Former Strictly Come Dancing star Gorka initially referenced Gemma's modelling days, during which she appeared on the covers of magazines such as FHM, Loaded, Zoo and Nuts. He then corrected himself: "Actually, no, sorry, actress…"
Gemma continued: "I’ve done every soap you can imagine, my darling, I run a business and I was FHM’s Sexiest Woman back in the day." She then quipped with a wink: "Your dad will know."
Fan Reactions
As a clip of the exchange was shared on social media, fans responded enthusiastically. @wheeks_andgiggles said: "Ya dad will know [crying laughing emojis]. mic drop." @hashimoto.knowledge.heal.power replied: "Best response!!" @itsmisschrissie commented: "Hollyoaks! is always my first thought."
@faizal_perager echoed: "@glouiseatkinson I remember you as Lisa Hunter in Hollyoaks, the Old School era was iconic." @caroja_crochet wrote: "Awww you were great in Emmerdale, broke poor Marlon’s heart." @misspg05 added: "Still sexiest woman, on the outside and inside, such a great girl. And I’m a straight female, not a dad."
Gemma's Soap Career
Gemma starred as Lisa Hunter on Channel 4 soap Hollyoaks for four years before quitting in 2005. She later played Carly Hope in ITV's Emmerdale from 2015 to 2017. While she briefly reprised her Hollyoaks role in 2022, she has admitted that returning to a soap role won't be on the cards, despite bosses asking her to make a more permanent comeback.
Speaking on the last episode of her and Gorka's podcast, the 41-year-old said: "Hollyoaks kindly asked me back a few times, and I love Hollyoaks, forever grateful for [it] – it’s because of that soap I’m where I am now." She explained that being a mum to two youngsters—Mia and Thiago—is a major factor: "I wouldn’t be able to do a soap again… The thing is with soaps, you have to be on call 24/7 unless you specifically book time off. We had to have in my contracts with Hollyoaks, Emmerdale and Casualty that you had to be within an hour of the studio all the time unless you’d book time off."
