Presenter Gaby Roslin has said her new TV show “reignited my deep love for all animals” and helped her realise “how important our pets are in our lives”.
The broadcaster, 62, will star in The Joy Of Pets with veterinarian Dr Bolu Eso as they celebrate Britain’s love of pets and travel across the country to discover what makes us a nation of “animal adorers”.
The programme will feature tips and tricks from animal experts, along with heartwarming stories and advice from owners of all varieties of pets – ranging from dogs and cats to tortoises and tarantulas.
Roslin’s idea for the show
Roslin explained that she “came up with the idea” for the show and approached producers Bandicoot Scotland.
The TV and radio presenter said: “It’s pets, it’s joy… and it’s a bit naughty, which I like!
“We don’t take ourselves too seriously. We’re working with the best in the business.
“We’re a nation of animal lovers and this show proves it.
“Every single person I have talked to about the show – not people in the TV business but across the board – they all go ‘ahh’, it just makes me want to cry.”
Deep love for animals
“Bolu and I were overwhelmed by the reaction of the public,” she added, reflecting on how the show made her realise the importance of pets to people and vice versa.
Roslin continued: “It reignited my deep love for all animals. I’m mad about all animals, both pets and those in the wild.
“What the show did is remind me how important our pets are in our lives. I knew this but it underlined it.”
Roslin also spoke highly of her co-star Dr Eso, who is known for appearing in dog-grooming competition series Pooch Perfect and as a resident expert on ITV’s Love Your Weekend With Alan Titchmarsh.
“He’s truly a magical soul,” she said.
“He’s in the right profession and I love him and working with him! I couldn’t wish for someone lovelier to spend time with.”
Dr Eso on the series
Dr Eso added that he “loved every second” working with Roslin, saying they have seen “so many fascinating stories that have touched my heart” whilst filming the show.
Reflecting on the benefits of pet ownership, he said: “They teach you the value of life.
“They give unconditional love, they love you on your worst days, they love you on your best days – they love you consistently.
“There’s no bite back, there’s no manipulation, it’s just a pure relationship.”
The series will consist of five 60-minute episodes, and has been made in association with Inspiring Vet Care.
The Joy Of Pets will air every Sunday at 11.30am on ITV and ITVX, with the first episode on August 23.
