Fans of Good Morning Britain were quick to share their excitement this week as a beloved presenter returned to the ITV show. The hit programme has been airing every weekday morning, with Susanna Reid, Ed Balls, Richard Madeley, Martin Lewis, Ranvir Singh, and Kate Garraway all delivering the latest headlines. They weren't the only stars to grace the new central London studio, as Faye Barker also returned to the show this week, just months after her ITV axing.
Mass ITV Cuts Led to Departures
Mass ITV cuts saw four presenters leave Good Morning Britain at the end of last year. Faye Barker, Sally Biddulph, Sangeeta Kandola, and Sharon Thomas – who all presented the London news during the programme – notably bid farewell to fans on social media. Faye wrote on Instagram at the time: "When you sign off from a job you have loved. Thank you to everyone who has tuned into my early morning @itvlondon bulletins over the past 17 years or so!" She added: "This isn't goodbye, though – my new role starts tomorrow, and I am looking forward to working closely with the @gmb team and continuing to report and present for @itvnews."
Faye Barker's Return
Now, Faye has returned to Good Morning Britain this week to present the rest of the day's news. Sharing several photos from her time in the studio, Faye wrote on Instagram on Thursday (June 18): "What a fun morning with team @gmb – and with some great news on the football too." She thanked her co-stars for making her feel "so welcome in the studio", adding: "And all the other amazing people behind the scenes who make this show so legendary." The star was back on screens on Friday morning (June 19), where she returned to presenting the London news, as well as other headlines.
Viewers Delighted by Comeback
Viewers were delighted to see Faye's comeback. One person wrote on X (formerly Twitter): "#gmb Faye Barker should be presenting the show not doing 5 mins of headlines." Responding to Faye's Instagram post, someone else added: "Love this, you were brilliant," while Ranvir Singh commented: "And you're back again because we loved you so much!" Another viewer wrote: "Nice to see Faye reading the news," with someone else sharing: "Good to see Faye back." A fourth fan echoed the sentiment, saying: "You make GMB more interesting. I think you should be a main presenter on Thursday and Friday!!"
Impact of ITV Cuts
The ITV exits came after a massive cut from the broadcaster, with 220 staff reportedly being made redundant. Additionally, Lorraine was cut to just 30 minutes across 30 weeks of the year, with Loose Women also airing on a 30-week schedule. Good Morning Britain airs weekdays on ITV1 and ITVX at 6am.
