Fatboy Slim, also known as Norman Cook, has opened up about his peculiar collections and unconventional thoughts on extraterrestrial life in an exclusive interview with Daily Star's Bekka Barnard at Capital's Summertime Ball red carpet.
The Weirdest Collections
The DJ, famous for hits like 'Praise You', revealed that his most unusual hobby is collecting odd items. 'The weirdest thing about me is probably my collections,' he said. 'I've got records, the obvious things, but I've also got all the hair I grew during lockdown in a jar. I've got all the Covid tests – my whole family, my whole house – we've got a jar of all the used tests.'
He also collects small boxes, intending to create a figure with his daughter. 'Me and my daughter, at some point when we've got enough, we're going to make a figure and paint it,' he explained.
Plastic Lobsters and Smiley Faces
Norman added, 'I collect plastic lobsters. People just give them to me. Once you start collecting… oh, Smileys! Obviously, I've got an enormous Smiley collection.' The iconic yellow Smiley face has been his unofficial logo for years, appearing on merchandise, albums, and even as a giant mural on his Brighton home.
He acquires these trinkets from friends, fans, and purchases while traveling. 'That's the weirdest ones – well, the weirdest ones that I'm going to tell you!' he joked.
Alternative Alien Theories
When asked about aliens, Norman shared his unique perspective. 'I think I believe there's something out there, maybe it doesn't have the weird big head shape, classic alien. It's probably something we can't really see, an alternative lifestyle that doesn't look at all like us.'
He elaborated, 'It wouldn't look like us, big with a really big head, put it that way. That's why we haven't seen them – they live in an alternate reality.'
Summertime Ball Performance
Fatboy Slim later performed to Wembley Stadium's 80,000-strong Summertime Ball crowd, showcasing his enduring popularity.
