BBC Escape to the Country star Jules Hudson returned to Wales to help one couple find their dream home, but he quickly shared a concern about their house-hunting mission. During Friday's episode of the BBC property show (August 28), Jules, 54, visited the idyllic North Wales countryside, where he admitted he had once lived, with hopes of finding the perfect property for two househunters.
Couple's search for a wellness retreat
Jo and Nick, who currently live in Reading, Berkshire, wanted to find their own peaceful pocket of rural living and make their home a wellness retreat in the countryside. They hoped for a remote lifestyle and a slower pace, and wanted to use North Wales as a peaceful base for their yoga sessions and sound baths.
"Well, today's couple love outdoor sports and nature, so no surprise they want to come here to North Wales, regarded by many as the adventure capital of Europe. As for the nature and the views, I think they speak for themselves!" Jules said as he opened the episode.
However, the presenter quickly shared his worries, adding: "One thing that concerns me is that they have been looking for a property for a very long time, so what are we going to do that they haven't already done?"
Properties viewed across North Wales
The couple were armed with a comfortable budget of £600,000 and were looking for a detached property with two to four bedrooms, one acre of land, rural views, and a holiday let/studio option.
The first property Jules visited with Jo and Nick was in Groesffordd Marli, Denbighshire, where a three-bedroom converted barn was priced at £599,000. The second house was built in the 1950s, had a distinct exterior, two bedrooms, and an outside space that offered more accommodation. Located in Glan Conwy, the couple were shocked by the property's appealing asking price of £475,000, and appeared to consider making an offer.
The third home was a cottage with three to four bedrooms and an annex, located in the breathtaking area of Nant Peris in Gwynedd, and was on the market for £590,000.
No offers made by the end of the episode
After viewing several properties, it was revealed at the end of the episode that the duo was waiting for an offer on their own property before bidding on any houses in North Wales.
"What a week it's been, we have seen some magnificent landscapes, some wonderful properties, and let's face it, some architectural gems thrown in as well, my goodness me," Jules added as he closed the episode.
