Louise Jameson, known to Emmerdale fans as Mary Goskirk, has opened up about her strained relationship with former Doctor Who co-star Tom Baker and the sad end of her marriage. The actress, who joined the ITV soap in 2022 as Rhona Goskirk's mother, has become a fan favourite with storylines including coming out as a lesbian and being scammed by a love interest.

Mary Goskirk's Emmerdale Storylines

Since arriving in the Dales, Mary has been at the centre of several dramatic plots. She confided in Kim Tate about her hidden sexuality and fell for Faye Helders, who stole her money. More recently, her partner Suzy Merton was killed in a limo crash, leaving Vanessa Woodfield heartbroken to learn Suzy truly loved Mary. Mary also supported her family during April Windsor's exploitation by drug dealers.

Louise Jameson's Doctor Who Past

Before Emmerdale, Jameson was best known for playing Leela, companion to the Fourth Doctor. She appeared regularly from 1977 to 1978. Off-screen, she and Tom Baker had a difficult relationship, but they have since reconciled. Speaking to Doctor Who Magazine after attending Baker's MBE ceremony, she said: "I've known Tom for a long time, and it is no secret that we had our problems back in the seventies. We've absolutely come full circle."

Marriage and Divorce

Jameson met artist Martin Bedford while filming Bergerac in Jersey. They married in 1990 at a church near her home in Tunbridge Wells. After seven years, they separated. Jameson reflected: "It got to the stage where had we continued living together we'd have been in real danger of losing that love entirely." She added: "I will never regret marrying Martin because he made me happy for such a long time."
