Emmerdale Star Casey Al-Shaqsy Shares Weight Loss and West End Past

Emmerdale newcomer Casey Al-Shaqsy, who plays Serena Sugden, has shared a weight loss update on Instagram alongside details of her impressive West End theatre background. The actress made her ITV soap debut last month and has already begun raising eyebrows with her character's odd behaviour.

Serena's Arrival in the Village

Serena, portrayed by Casey Al-Shaqsy, arrived in the village last month as part of the Sugden family, with her grandfather being a cousin of Robert Sugden's father Jack. Serena revealed that she was without a home or employment and therefore decided to visit and seek assistance from her relatives in the village. Serena has subsequently been taken in by Sarah Sugden, and Charity Dingle has given her employment as a barmaid at The Woolpack following a heart-to-heart about her recent difficulties.

Suspicions Arise

Yet in recent episodes, Serena has been arousing suspicion. Most recently, Serena has begun probing for details about her late serial killer cousin John Sugden, whom she had known, and his victim Nate Robinson. As Serena takes the spotlight, soap viewers are eager to discover more about Serena star Casey Al-Shaqsy's life beyond the ITV soap.

Weight Loss Journey

Most recently, Casey turned to Instagram to share and discuss her weight loss. Sharing a series of images to her Instagram Story, where she also sported longer hair, the actress wrote: "I think in 2 months since watching my first eps... I think I've lost a bit of weight" with shocked emojis. In the photographs, Casey wore a pair of nude shorts, a lilac bralette, and a cropped striped jumper as she posed for a series of pictures which she uploaded to her social media.

Impressive West End Career

Emmerdale represents one of Casey's first forays into television and soap opera. Before landing the ITV soap role, Casey built an impressive West End career, with credits including Once on This Island (Concert - Theatre Royal Drury Lane), Hamilton (UK Tour), Wicked (UK Tour), Six: The Musical (UK Tour), Bonnie and Clyde (Concert - Theatre Royal Drury Lane), Prince of Egypt (Dominion Theatre), and Rumi: The Musical (London Coliseum).

Excitement About Emmerdale Role

Speaking about her Emmerdale casting last month, Casey said: "I'm absolutely thrilled to be joining such an iconic show and playing a Sugden! Serena is a fantastic character with so much going on beneath the surface. I can't wait for the audience to see the drama unfold."
