Emmerdale fans have spotted two blunders on the ITV soap as Dawn Taylor died in hospital. The Emmerdale resident had been caught up in the marquee incident with her boyfriend Joe Tate by her side. Jimmy King died in the crash, leaving wife Nicola King and their kids grieving over the sudden loss.
Dawn's death and the cardiac arrest
On Sunday night, Dawn died in devastating scenes as Joe struggled to wake her. It was later confirmed she had suffered a cardiac arrest after losing a lot of blood, leaving fans devastated at her exit.
However, some viewers quickly criticised the scenes, which saw Joe collapse in the corridor of the hospital for several minutes, with no one spotting him.
Fans criticise the hospital scenes
One fan wrote: "Yeah as soon as Joe suddenly woke up after collapsing on the floor after however long and I was like, REALLY???!! The fact that no one was in the hallway at any given moment, is unbelievable."
As a second added: "The nurse that came in as he was getting up could see he looked confused and did nothing aswell." A third shared: "No-one in the corridors, everyone just walking in and out of the patient's room whenever they like. Although to be fair, surprised Liam or Manpreet weren't there to give immediate diagnosis."
In the scenes, Joe asked for five more minutes with Dawn before they did her observations. However, fans criticised the storyline, saying medical professionals should have stepped in.
"The nurse did try to, they wanted 5 minutes, but if the nurse got distracted and nobody went to check on her that's so bad. Maybe joe would sue the hospital," one fan said.
Another fan replied: "I think it's the hospitals responsibility, he asked for 5 more minutes but it was still the staffs decision to decide if it's safe to wait or not." A third added: "I was thinking this too. Why weren't her vitals hooked up? She'd been in an accident and had premature labour, it wasn't a typical delivery."
Real-life medics used in the scenes
According to Olivia, the soap used real life paramedics and intensive care workers for the scenes.
"They had real life paramedics and intensive care workers who came in to play those parts. Emmerdale is a fast-paced soap and we often don't have time to train actors up, so they bring supporting people in with a lot of experience," she told The Mirror.
"They had rehearsed the crash response with Ned and the supporting artists first and, right at the last minute, they put me in the scene. I had no idea what was going on. They went into the crash response, and it felt like an out of body experience lying there. They were all so professional and brilliant at what they did."
