Emmerdale fans believe the latest episode foreshadowed the death of Jimmy King, following reports that actor Nick Miles is set to leave the ITV soap after more than 20 years.
In the episode, Jimmy opened up to Charity Dingle while sitting by the graves of his late father Tom King and his late brothers Carl, Max, and Matthew, all of whom have died on the show. He had just been forced to sell his long-running business, which fans took as another sign he would not be around much longer.
Fans react to emotional scenes
Viewers took to social media to share their theories, with one saying: "Does anyone else think tonight’s ep foreshadowed Jimmy’s death massively? When Charity told him it doesn’t matter what he leaves behind in the end etc."
Another fan agreed: "If this isn't foreshadowing I don't know what is." A third wrote: "I felt like they were giving Jimmy and Charity scenes together for the actors to say goodbye," while a fourth added: "Jimmy selling the haulage to Ruby and Caleb. More confirmation that he's dying soon."
Talk of legacy and final goodbyes
Further theories pointed to the recurring themes of legacy and nostalgia. One fan wrote: "Felt so eerie talking about his legacy, what we leave behind, all of the nostalgia recently, planning a vow renewal and then selling his business, and THE GRAVES and thinking of his cursed family members, all felt like it was teasing what could be coming."
Another added: "The Jimmy and Charity scene was very very beautiful but also very final," while one said: "I feel like the graves were a big sign of foreshadowing." A fan then posted: "The graves, the loss of the business, talks of legacy and what you leave behind all felt so final."
One viewer wrote: "I’m so scared for next week Jimmy stay with us pleeeaaase," and another said: "I appreciate that the writers are dedicating a significant amount of time to saying goodbye to Jimmy."
The soap has not confirmed Jimmy's exit or when it might happen. Emmerdale airs weeknights at 8pm on ITV1 and ITVX.
