Emmerdale fans were left with the same statement about Joe Tate after his partner, Dawn Fletcher, died in the long-running ITV soap.
Disaster struck on what should have been Dawn and Joe's wedding day when Jimmy King crashed into the marquee where the couple were set to marry, sending debris flying and throwing the celebrations into chaos.
Jimmy died at the scene, with his wife, Nicola, seen saying an emotional goodbye after finding the devastating scene while heading to a picnic with her husband.
Dawn's death after giving birth
Nicola managed to escape the wreckage with a pregnant Dawn, but Joe was left trapped. As Graham Foster desperately rushed to save him, an explosion ripped through the marquee, seemingly leaving Joe for dead.
Joe survived, but Dawn went into premature labour. She gave birth to a baby boy, and she and Joe were looking ahead to a new chapter, with Joe seemingly forgiving Dawn for planning to leave him after her ex-husband, Billy Fletcher, lied about Joe being the one who attacked him.
On Sunday (August 30), the tragedy took another turn as Dawn became the latest victim of the wedding disaster. As Joe sat by Dawn's hospital bed, hoping to talk to her, he realised she was unresponsive.
Fans praise Ned Porteous
Despite hospital staff's desperate efforts to save her, Joe was told that Dawn had suffered a significant haemorrhage, causing her heart to stop. Heartbroken, Joe could only sit by Dawn's bedside, imagining the life they could have had and the wedding they never got to share, shown to viewers in a dream sequence.
