Emmerdale fans are concerned that PC Mike Swirling (Andy Moore) has quietly left the ITV soap after more than 20 years. The character, who has been on the show since 2004, hasn't appeared on screen in recent months, sparking fears among viewers.
Fans call for his return
On an Emmerdale Facebook fan page, alongside a photo of PC Swirling, one person said: “Where has he gone not seen him in ages?” Someone else added: “What happened to him I miss him; hopefully he comes back to Emmerdale.” A third wrote: “Yes where has he gone? Need him living in the village now.”
Echoing their thoughts, another fan penned: “Me too come on writers, we want him back!!” A fifth also said: “Yes bring him back we miss him,” along with a sad crying face emoji.
Andy Moore's career beyond Emmerdale
Actor Andy Moore, who plays PC Swirling, has had a notable television career. He first appeared in soap operas in 2005 with a short stint as a driver in two episodes of Coronation Street. By 2010, he returned to the same series as a photographer. Moore has also had roles in The Bill, The Royal, and Fred and Marv.
In 2022, Moore shared on Facebook a YouTube video by indie band Courting, featuring his contribution. He wrote: "Andy Moore starring in a music video for indie band Courting."
Recent projects
During the coronavirus pandemic, Moore produced and starred in a brief 10-minute sketch titled The Last Lockdown Sketch, uploaded to YouTube. Its description reads: "When your online consultation with your doctor goes one massive step further." The caption adds: "The doctor instructs his patient through a step by step major operation procedure over Zoom."
He also wrote: "Hasn't the last couple of years been strange and frustrating. As a mark of coming out of it this film ridicules the weird time we have just come out of with elaborate exaggeration and a rather dark twist." Emmerdale airs Monday to Friday at 8:00pm on ITV1 and ITVX.
