Emmerdale viewers fear that the notorious Joe Tate has come to an end after the horror wedding crash left him trapped in the marquee.
Actor Ned Porteous reprised his role as the devious Joe back in 2024, and his character has been causing chaos in the village ever since. It started with his kidney heist as he was in desperate search for a match.
Having caused the Valentine's Day limo crash after drugging Noah Dingle and leaving him stumbling around on the road after learning he wasn't a match, three villagers died.
Joe's history of chaos
He was first exposed in a dramatic Home Farm party for Lydia Dingle, and he was later pushed out of the window by Dawn Fletcher, who also learned that he had threatened her daughter, Clemmie.
Since then, however, Joe seems to have been able to shrug all of this off and been living life quite happily with Dawn still by his side. He's been back to his scheming ways after spotting Victoria Sugden kill John Sugden in self-defence, and has used his video footage to blackmail Robert Sugden.
As his big wedding day to Dawn arrived, Joe was none the wiser that she was planning on running away with ex-husband Billy Fletcher as she was made to believe that Joe was the one who attacked Billy at the Depot.
The wedding day disaster
That was until Caleb Miligan (whom he kidnapped and stole a kidney from) delighted in telling Joe their plans. On Wednesday night, Dawn finally found out that Billy had lied about the attack, and as she came face to face with a self-destructive Joe who had been drinking, she made an emotional plea for them to still get wed.
Right before Joe could give her an answer, Jimmy King's car came crashing through the wedding marquee, leaving Jimmy bleeding and unconscious, with Dawn and Joe lay on the ground surrounded by destruction.
The devastation trickled into Thursday's episode, when Nicola made a tearful goodbye to Jimmy as he died in the car after telling her his plans for them to finally renew their wedding vows.
Fans react to Joe's fate
As the marquee was set to blow, Dawn managed to stumble to her feet as Joe encouraged her to help Nicola get out. After the pair made it out of the marquee, Dawn watched in horror as it went up in flames, screaming Joe's name as he remained trapped inside.
Now, fans are worried that Joe is the second death following Jimmy with fears that he'll be gone for good. On X (formerly known as Twitter), @tocheerusup wrote: "Did @emmerdale actually kill off Joe? Pretty surprised if they did. He'll probably arise from the dead tomorrow..."
@thatsmypeachx said: "Surely they haven't actually killed... #Emmerdale," as @gordonbennet230 penned: "Oh Lordy has Joe been blown to bits or not." @BenoitBlancFan posted: "F**k off they've not killed Joe???? #Emmerdale Caleb and Ruby better run." @Lisalisey87 added: "Joe Tate better still be alive at the end of this week or head's will ROLL #emmerdale."
Emmerdale airs on weeknights at 8pm on ITV1 and is available to stream on ITVX and YouTube from 7am.
