Sir Elton John has sparked concern among his fans after sharing a photograph of himself appearing bedridden in hospital, draped in a glittering cast. The 78-year-old music legend posted the image on Instagram on Friday, prompting many followers to wish him a speedy recovery.
The photo showed John in a hospital gown, sporting rhinestone-encrusted leg casts and a neck brace, surrounded by floral arrangements and fellow cast members. One concerned fan wrote, "Get better soon with the Favor of God, Sir Elton John," while another said, "Sending you love. Your music got me through a lot of dark times."
However, John quickly clarified that the scene was staged for promotional purposes. In his caption, he explained, "Rocked too hard... ended up in a cast! Backstage with Spinal Tap. The new film, Spinal Tap II, and album are out today, featuring me on 'Listen To The Flower People' and 'Stonehenge.' Thanks for having me be a part of it!"
The post also included behind-the-scenes clips showing camera monitors, a film set, and the casts being removed, confirming the hospital setting was part of the production. Some fans admitted they were briefly fooled, with one commenting, "Scared me for a minute there. So glad you're ok."
The sequel, Spinal Tap II: The End Continues, follows the fictional rock band reuniting for one last performance after being separated for 15 years. The original 1984 mockumentary, This Is Spinal Tap, was directed by Rob Reiner. The new film and soundtrack, which features John on two tracks, were released on Friday. By Friday evening, John's Instagram post had garnered over 210,000 likes.
