Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson commanded attention at the world premiere of Disney's live-action Moana in Los Angeles on Tuesday night, arriving in an unbuttoned white shirt and matching trousers that showcased his physique. The 54-year-old actor, embodying the demigod Maui, later treated the audience to a live performance, completing his look with a traditional Polynesian lei and his signature grin.
Newcomer Catherine Lag'aia Shines as Moana
Joining Johnson on the blue carpet was 19-year-old Catherine Lag'aia, who takes on the iconic title role of Moana in the remake of the beloved 2016 Disney film. The radiant actress celebrated bringing the fearless, water-loving princess to life. Johnson credited Lag'aia with easing the pressure of reviving the film's beloved songs, stating: "These are iconic songs that are beloved, and this is our live-action version, so you got to step up to the plate. And you feel the pressure. You gotta bring the A-plus-plus game to this thing. And you gotta have a great partner. That's what I had."
Star-Studded Cast and Guests
The premiere also featured several cast members, including Rena Owen as Moana's grandmother Tala, Frankie Adams as mother Sina in a sheer floral gown, and John Tui as Chief Tui in a smart suit and bow-tie. Other notable attendees included actress Ming-Na Wen, comedian Tiffany Haddish in a vibrant yellow outfit, and social media star Bretman Rock, all adding to the event's glamour.
Film Release and Plot
The live-action adaptation follows Moana on an epic ocean voyage to save her island, reuniting with the shape-shifting demigod Maui for a breathtaking retelling of the Disney favorite. Moana is scheduled to be released in cinemas on July 10, 2026.
