Duffy has posted another social media message as fans eagerly await her music comeback. The Welsh singer first teased that she was planning to return to the spotlight in May, more than a decade after her last record was released.
18 Years of Stepping Stone
The Mercy singer, who grew up in Nefyn, has shared a rare social media post to mark the anniversary of one of her most popular songs being released. Sharing a clip from the music video of the song, Duffy wrote: "This week marks 18 years of Stepping Stone," followed by a love heart.
The post is the second to feature on her Instagram.
Teasing New Music
In her only other post made in May, Duffy shared a black and white photo of herself in the studio and hinted to fans that new music might finally be on the way. She wrote: "If only I could find the right words to explain how much I've missed you all. Working on coming back to you."
Then in July, she performed a "secret intimate gig" next month in London, marking her first public performance in more than a decade. The full setlist for the gig has not been confirmed, but the singer previously suggested that she could perform some new songs.
Fans React with Excitement
Duffy is known for her Grammy Award-winning album Rockferry, which featured Stepping Stone, released in 2008. After enjoying success in the spotlight fans were left confused when she largely disappeared after releasing her second album in 2010.
She later opened up about the hiatus and said it was after she endured a horrific four-week ordeal during which she says she was drugged in her own home, raped, and taken to a foreign country. She said she was lucky to escape.
Duffy has remained out of the public eye since she bravely shared her traumatic experience in 2020. Earlier this year it emerged the star was preparing to make a return to the spotlight.
Documentary and Future Plans
The singer secured a deal with Disney+ to tell her own story following her meteoric rise to fame. The project is said to offer fans "new, unprecedented access" to the star alongside interviews with her friends, family and music peers.
The documentary will also explore the profound suffering she has endured over the years following her withdrawal from public life and the horrific kidnap ordeal.
Fans were quick to react to Duffy's previous posts with excitement at her comeback. One person wrote: "Yesterday I was thinking of you and how I missed you so much and your music too! And if I can wait 15 years, I can wait a little more. Hope the best for you."
Another said: "We are so ready!" A third person said: "Can't wait! We'll be here forever and always!"
