Dolly Parton's funeral plans have been revealed following the death of the country music legend at the age of 80. The global superstar died peacefully in Nashville, Tennessee, on Tuesday August 25, with her family confirming that she had requested a small, private service for immediate family only.
Fans encouraged to pay tribute online
Fans around the world have instead been encouraged to pay tribute to Dolly online, with her family asking supporters to tag @DollyParton on social media or leave a message through her official website. The family has also asked mourners not to send flowers, but to make donations to Dolly Parton's Imagination Library, the literacy charity she founded which provides books to children.
The announcement described Dolly as a “global icon and humanitarian”, celebrating her extraordinary career as a singer, songwriter, philanthropist, actress, playwright and author.
Family's moving tribute
In a moving tribute, her family said: “A rhinestone life that shone bright enough for the world to see, Dolly will forever stand as an inspiration not only through her timeless music and prolific songwriting, but also her wit, warmth, and kindness that made us all feel like family.” They added that her legacy was one of “love, compassion, and resilience”, with her seven-decade career inspiring generations of artists and fans.

Nephew's emotional message
Her nephew Bryan Seaver, who served as her head of security for more than two decades, also shared an emotional message announcing her death. He described the moment as one of “absolute pride and great sadness”, while saying that Dolly had “lived in the light”.
Dolly is preceded in death by her beloved husband of 59 years, Carl Thomas Dean, who died in 2025, as well as her mother Avie Lee Caroline Owens and father Robert Lee Parton Sr.
