Doja Cat Opens 2025 VMAs with '80s-Themed Performance Featuring Kenny G

Doja Cat kicked off the 2025 MTV Video Music Awards with a heavily '80s-influenced performance, putting to rest any speculation about the direction of her upcoming album. Introduced by LL Cool J and a Max Headroom-style video, she was joined by saxophonist Kenny G before launching into her new single, 'Jealous Type.'

The set was a vibrant homage to the decade, featuring pink flourishes, squiggles, a black-and-white checkered floor, a keytar, and dancers in Kangol hats. The performance was a fitting tribute to the channel's early music video era.

Doja Cat's fifth studio album, 'Vie,' is scheduled for release on 26 September. Her previous album, 'Scarlet,' debuted at No. 4 on the Billboard 200 in September 2023 and produced hit singles 'Paint the Town Red' and 'Agora Hills,' which peaked at No. 1 and No. 7 on the Hot 100, respectively.
