Perez Hilton has disclosed that a severe case of sepsis, triggered by his own negligence, led to a 21-day hospitalisation. The 47-year-old blogger shared the details in a YouTube video on Monday, describing the ordeal as both the worst and best experience of his life.
Hilton explained that he had the flu for a week and took medication without food, which caused an ulcer that perforated and led to sepsis. 'People die of sepsis,' he said. He was taken to Southern Hills Hospital by ambulance after experiencing intense stomach pain and losing the ability to walk.
After five days of tests, he underwent laparoscopic surgery. However, complications arose, including fluid in his lungs requiring another major procedure and a subsequent heart problem. He also developed a hospital-acquired infection, which he noted is common.
During his recovery, Hilton broke down in tears recounting how he saw God, a transformative experience that has led him to plan to take his children to church and enrol them in Catholic school. He also spoke about his father, who died before Hilton came out as gay, calling his father his 'everything.'
Hilton said he will now prioritise rest, aiming for eight hours of sleep nightly, and spend more time with his children. He thanked his sister and mother for their support during his hospital stay.
