Declan Donnelly has opened up about living with misophonia, revealing the sound of people eating can leave him feeling deeply uncomfortable. The Britain's Got Talent and I'm A Celebrity presenter admitted the condition was put to the test during a recent visit to an airport executive lounge, where a fellow traveller unknowingly pushed his patience to the limit.
Misophonia and the Crisps Incident
Dec, 50, explained: "I've got that thing, you know, there's a condition where you can't bear.. misophonia I've got that. I don't like hearing people eating and licking." Recalling the awkward moment, he said: "I was in the airport the other day, and I was in the lounge, in the executive lounge, and a woman came and sat opposite me with a bag of crisps, and I thought, 'This is not going to end well'."
He continued: "She sat opposite me, and she ate really noisily a bag of crisps. And it really upset me." The presenter admitted he couldn't help glaring at the unsuspecting woman, but he knew the problem wasn't hers, he chuckled: "Oh, I stared at her, I stared at her. I didn't tut because it's not her problem. It's my problem. I've got the issue with it."
Afterlife Beliefs on Podcast
Elsewhere on the latest episode of his podcast Hanging Out With Ant & Dec the TV star shared his afterlife beliefs. Dec said: "There's got to be more to life than death, right? You know what I mean? I think there are different stages of consciousness..." Ant McPartlin said he believes in "reincarnation" and he would like to come back as a "chocolate Labrador". He added: "I believe that when you do eventually do go that you go to this place of rebirth but before you are reborn in a different body, there's like a great scales of Karma. So it depends what form you take when you come back, whether you've got a good life or bad life."
