Davina McCall appeared on Good Morning Britain with Richard Madeley and Kate Garraway to discuss her Outstanding Achievement Award at the Edinburgh TV Festival.
Davina Reflects on Richard's Early Career Compliment
As the interview began, she was quick to pay tribute to Richard and the kind words he said to her many years ago in her early career. She told him that she'd 'never forget' when she was on This Morning in the 1990s with Richard and his wife Judy when he told a young Davina that he'd been watching her between shots and thought she was 'good' at presenting.
Davina confessed that she 'saved that in my heart my entire career' before highlighting how 'grateful' she was for his kind remark. Speaking about being with Kate and Richard on the show, she added: "I've got goosebumps! It's so exciting." She then praised the 'amazing' job the two presenters do each day.
Richard's Eye for Presenting Talent
Richard admitted he has a keen eye for identifying presenting talent, revealing he had recognised Davina's natural ability from the outset. The 58-year-old told Richard that he didn't realise how much that moment had helped her to do the same thing for others over the years.
Davina's Desert Island Show Choice
Later in their conversation, they discussed some of the programmes Davina has featured in, as Richard asked which 'one show' she would take with her to the desert island. While she recognised that Big Brother changed her life, she revealed that the show which earned her that role in the first place was being on Streetmate.
The Channel 4 dating show in the late 1990s to early 2000s, where Davina roamed the city streets to find single people and match them up with spontaneous blind dates chosen from the public. Davina praised the show as 'so funny', admitting the cast had no script and didn't know what they were doing or if they were going to be able to find anyone to take part. Calling it the 'craziest' show she's ever been a part of in her life, she shared that it was what led her to present Big Brother.
Good Morning Britain is available to watch on ITV weekdays from 6am.
