David Harbour has broken his silence on ex-wife Lily Allen's latest album, describing it as 'weird' and insisting that it did not reflect his own experience of their marriage breakdown.
Harbour Speaks Out on Lily Allen's Album
The 'Stranger Things' star and the singer split in late 2024 and confirmed their breakup in February 2025. The separation appears to have been acrimonious, with Allen channelling her emotions into her critically acclaimed record 'West End Girl.' However, Harbour has now branded the album 'weird' in a recent interview.
In the album, Allen sings about extramarital activity and emotional manipulation. The lyrics reportedly blend fact and fiction to tell the story of a breakup. Harbour responded: 'It wasn't my experience.'
Speaking to Variety, he elaborated: 'It was weird. I do believe that it is the privilege of every artist to use their experience to create art, and so I respect her for doing that. I can't really say that much more, because it's my private life.'
He added: 'In spite of the fact that a lot of people don't allow me a private life — I value it. And I also value the lives of the people that I interact with privately. I just won't speak about that. Stories are complex, and that's why I say I respect her creation of art to channel her experience. It wasn't my experience.'
Allen's 'Fact and Fiction' Lyrics
While Allen admits there is 'fact and fiction' in her lyrics, she has cautioned fans not to take them as gospel. This is not the only dig she has aimed at her former husband. In March, she wore a gown made of receipts for items her partner allegedly bought other women.
Allen unveiled the look during a performance of her track '4Chan Stan,' in which she sings about discovering a partner's infidelity. The dress was wrapped in fabric printed with lyrics and receipts, which unfolded as she performed. Among the alleged purchases were receipts from tequila bars and the luxury department store Bergdorf Goodman.
The latter reference ties directly to a lyric: 'Never been Bergdorf's, but you took someone shopping there on May 24. You bought her a handbag. It wasn't cheap. I was in London. Probably asleep.'
Their Relationship and Aftermath
Harbour and Allen first met on the exclusive dating app Raya before marrying in Las Vegas in 2020. However, four years later, they went their separate ways following allegations of infidelity. Since the split, Allen has confirmed she is dating Jonah Freud, who is 12 years her junior. The couple were recently spotted enjoying a romantic break in Rome.
