Britpop icon Damon Albarn has disclosed that he took his daughter on a holiday to North Korea, describing the trip as a family experience aimed at broadening her cultural and political awareness. The Blur and Gorillaz frontman, 58, made the revelation while appearing on The Adam Buxton Podcast alongside bandmate Jamie Hewlett.
During the podcast, the trio discussed whether they had made life "too easy" for their children and the challenge of balancing protection with exposure to the world. Albarn spoke specifically about his daughter Missy, noting that he has "been very hard on [her] as far as culture and education." He added that they had visited North Korea as part of a family holiday.
Albarn said he believes his daughter is "a bit more politically aware than a lot of people of her generation," citing her frustration that many of her peers "don't seem to care what's happening." The singer emphasised that Missy regularly tells him how concerned she is about global issues, a sentiment he attributed in part to their travels and discussions.
North Korea remains one of the world's most isolated countries, with strict controls on tourism and foreign visitors. Albarn did not provide further details about the trip, including when it took place or how they entered the country. The comments have drawn attention due to the unusual nature of a British celebrity vacationing in the secretive state.
