Craig Revel Horwood Reveals Brutal Nickname Over Weight Gain

Strictly Come Dancing judge Craig Revel Horwood, 61, has shared the brutal nickname he was given as a child after a PE teacher publicly humiliated him for putting on weight. Speaking on the Judgemental podcast, which he co-hosts with fellow Strictly judge Anton du Beke, the discussion turned to the topic of "public humiliation."

Craig's Childhood Humiliation

Craig joked that public humiliation is "what life is all about" before recounting a mortifying story from his school days. He said: "I remember when I was a kid, I came back from the Easter break and my PE teacher, because I'd eaten a lot of chocolate. I was quite a porky kid. And when I came back from the break my PE teacher said: 'Craig, you've put on so much weight, I'm going to use you as an example, and you will take your shirt off, in front of the class, and you will run around the oval in front of the class so they all watch.' I did it. And then I got a nickname after that."

The Nickname Revealed

Anton was keen to discover the nickname, to which Craig simply responded: "T**s." Anton could not hide his amusement and burst into laughter. The revelation came as Anton shared his own surprising admission on the podcast: he "doesn't like the concept" of ordering a takeaway. He said: "I don't like takeaways, I don't like the principle of a takeaway. I don't like the concept. It seems alien to me. I can't bear all that stuff." Anton added that his nine-year-old twins, George and Henrietta, never beg for fast food either, saying they "never even utter the words" of ordering pizza.

Craig's Guilty Pleasure

In contrast, Craig admitted that a double pepperoni pizza is one of his downfalls when trying to keep weight off. He said: "My guilty pleasure is double pepperoni pizza. It's bad news because I keep buying them in the supermarket and I keep putting them in the oven and I keep eating them. I need to stop myself. I don't do it all the time, only on special occasions." He also revealed he sometimes has to wear elasticated trousers due to his indulgences.
