Corrie's Megan Actress Teases Return After Prison Sentence

Coronation Street villain Megan Walsh could be set for a dramatic return to the cobbles after being jailed for her horrific offences. Megan (Beth Nixon) first appeared on the ITV soap last year as the athletics coach of Will Driscoll (Lucas Hodgson-Wale), who relocated from Hull to Weatherfield with his family. It subsequently emerged that Megan had been secretly grooming 16-year-old Will for months before his move to the street. She was also carrying his child, with the pair harbouring plans to eventually flee together. Once the truth about their relationship was exposed, Will reported Megan to the police, leading to her arrest.

Conviction and Sentence

Last week saw the case go to trial, with solicitor Adam Barlow (Sam Robertson) representing the twisted paedophile in court. Despite a turbulent start to proceedings, justice ultimately prevailed when the jury delivered their verdict, reports the Daily Star. Megan was convicted on two charges: inciting a child into engaging in sexual activity and while being in a position of trust. She was subsequently handed a five-year prison sentence. In Monday's episode (July 6), it was disclosed that Megan had already been caught up in a brawl behind bars — much to the satisfaction of Weatherfield's residents.

Actress Hints at Return

Yet it appears we haven't seen the last of her. Speaking on the Inside Soap podcast, actress Beth Nixon hinted at a possible return to the street. When quizzed about whether Megan might reappear on screen in the near future, Beth said: "We'll see, we will have to wait and see!" The television star was also questioned about whether she'd consider returning to play Megan from prison. Beth responded: "I'd love to. Any opportunity to come back I would always come back. I mean I loved it so much. I cried so much on my last day!"

Behind Bars Drama

She continued: "But yeah I'd love to come back. It's such a fab place to work and I felt so blessed to have been given that storyline because there was so much in it. I was trusted with so much material and I like to think hopefully that people have enjoyed the storyline. So yeah, I'd love to see Megan in prison that'd be great." Discussing how Megan might handle life behind bars, Beth explained: "She's obviously very manipulative and she's always able to worm her way out of situations but there's a real broad range of personalities that are going to be in prison with her."

Coronation Street airs Monday to Friday at 8:30pm on ITV1 and ITVX.
