Former Coronation Street star Rhea Bailey has revealed that her sister, Grammy-winning R&B singer Corinne Bailey Rae, performed at her wedding to Darren Everest. Bailey shared a carousel of images and clips on Instagram showing various people performing at the ceremony, which took place in June.
Wedding performances
Bailey, who played Caz Hammond on the ITV soap, revealed she also sang at her own wedding. In her Instagram caption, she wrote: 'I decided to sing at my own wedding! Just for the craic! I wanted to create a 'wedding singer vibe' And it worked! We had everyone joining it. There's a whole 4 min video of it, that you'll never see!'
She added: 'But then we were spoiled… with real professional talent! One of my highlights from the whole day was when the amazing [Ramzi] sang "Can We Talk" and everyone burst into song! Then my big sister, [Corinne], 2x #grammyawardwinner sang for us.'
Bailey noted that her sister had asked her to sing at her wedding years ago, making the performance particularly special. She also thanked her husband's band, The Overtones, for getting everyone on the dance floor, writing: 'Amazing having our friend, my husband and my sister spoil us. It was such a treat.'
Reactions and secret ceremony
Ramzi, who performed alongside the Bailey sisters and Darren, commented: 'It was such a special wedding, and atmosphere. What a surprise it was to see you get up and sing. You smashed it. Thank you for the kind words. It was an honour to perform for you both.'
Rhea's former Corrie co-star Bhavna Limbachia commented: 'You are one super talented lady! I was blown away by your voice! I have the footage!' Darren himself joked: 'Can we do it again please? (but without paying! lol)', to which Rhea replied: 'Sounds like the best plan EVER!!'
Bailey previously revealed she had two weddings, sharing snaps from a private ceremony at a registry office with only her sister and brother-in-law as witnesses. She described the intimate moment, saying they 'got the giggles, we both shed a tear and we were brimming with emotions.'
Corrie character Caz Hammond
Rhea's Corrie character Caz Hammond was far less angelic than her wedding appearance. Arriving as the fiancée of Kate Connor, Caz's extreme jealousy and manipulation led to Kate breaking up with her. She later befriended Maria Connor, orchestrated fake burglaries, and attempted to kiss her. When rejected, Caz faked her own murder and framed Maria, leading to Maria's arrest. Caz was eventually brought to justice and sent to prison for perverting the course of justice.
