Coronation Street star Tony Maudsley has revealed that he recently suffered a heartbreaking loss—the death of his beloved dog, Bosie—and has paid a permanent tribute with a portrait tattoo.
Tony Maudsley's Heartbreaking Announcement
The actor, best known for playing George Shuttleworth on the ITV soap, took to Instagram on Thursday, July 2, to share the sad news. He explained that Bosie's death occurred 'a few weeks ago,' but he had been too heartbroken to share it until now.
Maudsley, who joined the soap in 2020 as the son of undertaker Archie Shuttleworth, later took over Shuttleworth's Independent Funeral Directors. He has since been joined by his on-screen sister Glenda and recently began a relationship with Christina Boyd.
A Permanent Tribute
In his Instagram post, Maudsley revealed a portrait tattoo of Bosie, inked by Marko Prenger at @handofhopetattoo. 'Bosie will now walk with me everywhere, sitting just above my ankle, forever,' he wrote. 'Thank you Marko. This made me feel better more than you know.'
The actor had marked Bosie's 13th birthday in late May with a generated image, calling him a 'teenage dirtbag.' In his farewell post, he said: 'Saddest day of my life and I'll miss him terribly.'
Outpouring of Support
The post was flooded with messages from co-stars and fans. Sally Carman-Duttine sent 'all of the love in the world,' Vicky Myers expressed sorrow, and Samia Longchambon sent love. Former Corrie actor Paddy Bever sent 'big hugs,' and Kel Allen shared her own experience of loss, calling the tattoo 'beautiful.'
Fans also offered condolences, with one writing: 'Sorry for your loss! But this is such a beautiful gesture for him!' Another added: 'The love is so pure and the loss is unbearable.'
