Anya Dewin makes her Coronation Street debut tonight as Lucy Parkinson, the daughter of Richie, who has been charged with the murder of his wife Rachel. Lucy is introduced as Richie's daughter and Tim Metcalfe's cousin.
Richie's arrest and Lucy's arrival
During Monday's visit to Weatherfield, Richie stayed the night at Tim and Sally's house after another row with his wife Rachel. Sally was unhappy about him sleeping on their sofa and instructed Tim to get him back home. After a heart-to-heart in Tim's taxi, Tim encouraged Richie to give things with Rachel another shot and dropped him home. Later, Tim realised his cousin had left his wallet and drove back to return it. He noticed blood on Richie's shirt and, walking inside, saw Rachel's lifeless body.
In upcoming episodes from tonight, Tim and Sally sit in shocked silence after a sleepless night. DS Lisa Connor-Swain calls round and confirms Richie has been charged with Rachel's murder. Lisa tells them Lucy has been taken into care, while Richie claims he acted in self-defence.
Lucy moves in with Tim and Sally
As the week continues, Sally tells Tim and Brody Michaelis that Lucy's foster placement has fallen through, and they are struggling to find another suitable family. Tim arranges for Lucy to move in with them without consulting Sally. When Lucy arrives, Sally forces a smile. Ruth, the social worker, explains Lucy is suffering from grief and trauma and needs reassurance. Sally is horrified to discover Lucy has done a runner, but they find her at the bus stop and persuade her to come home.
Later, a scream wakes Sally and Tim, who find Lucy wide-eyed after a nightmare. Tim annoys Sally by saying Rachel would still be alive if Sally had let Richie stay. Lily Platt finds Lucy alone in Victoria Gardens, calls her a freak, and Lucy grabs Lily's arm until Jodie intervenes.
Anya Dewin's excitement
Taking to Instagram, Anya shared a snap of herself beaming outside the Rovers Return, writing: "I still can’t quite believe I get to say this, but I’m so grateful to be joining the cast of Coronation Street! This has been such a blessing, working alongside the most beautiful people, and getting to live out a dream I’ve had for so long. Some dreams really come true don’t they? Thank you so much @scream_management for making this possible. There’s a new girl on the Cobbles…. Lucy Parkinson".
Fellow castmates congratulated her, with Tony Mauldsley commenting: "And you are a DREAM casting!! What a wonderful job you're doing, Anya!! Welcome aboard!! Roll on Thursday!! HERE COMES LUCY!!!" Sydney Martin added: "can’t wait to watch you shine sweet girl" and Junade Khan wrote: "Well done hun".
