Coronation Street fans are anticipating a twist in the Theo Silverton murder investigation after it was teased that Gary Windass may be responsible for his demise. Those who follow the ITV soap were made aware that a death would rock the cobbles in the spring, after an episode of Corrie aired in February featured flash-forward scenes, transporting viewers to April.
The scenes showed Betsy Swain being interviewed by police after discovering the dead body of someone she knew on the night of her mum, Lisa Swain's, wedding to Carla Connor, before it was revealed that Theo, Carl Webster, Jodie Ramsey, Megan Walsh and Maggie Driscoll were the potential victims. It wasn't until a week after the wedding actually took place, on April 23, and aired on-screen that a horrified Betsy was seen discovering Theo dead, with a 'whodunnit' immediately getting underway.
Corrie previously confirmed Todd Grimshaw, George Shuttleworth, Summer Spellman, Christina Boyd, Gary Windass and Danielle Silverton as the six potential suspects. While the investigation is ongoing, Summer has been charged with Theo's murder after all the evidence so far pointed in her direction, and Tyrone Dobbs lied about seeing her on the night the abuser, who was alive at the time, was killed.
However, during Wednesday's (June 10) episode of Corrie, a guilty Tyrone ended up telling the police about seeing Summer on the night of Theo's murder. But it was actually a flashback sequence that got viewers talking as it placed Gary at the scene of Theo's murder. It has been assumed for a while that he knew more than he was letting on, as not only was he pictured in the back of one of Tim and Sally Metcalfe's selfies from the night in question, he has also been seen having hushed conversations with former flame Sarah Platt.
In the latest visit to Weatherfield, Maria started to worry that Gary and Sarah are having an affair. Later, in the Rovers, Gary felt awkward as Tyrone, Todd Grimshaw and DC Kit Green started discussing Theo's death. As Gary left, Kit followed him out onto the street and made it clear that Gary was still his number one suspect. Gary told Kit he needed to 'prove it' but as he walked away, it was clear Gary was concerned. A flashback to the night of Theo's murder showed Gary at the top of the scaffolding while holding a mallet. He could be seen staring down at Theo's lifeless body on the floor, which is where he was later found by Betsy.
While the scenes appeared to point to Gary being Theo's killer, Corrie fans aren't convinced it will be that 'obvious'. @Fake_TV_Chef said: "If this is the flashback, Gary didn't do it. I think Gary went to confront Theo after seeing Sarah upset on the street, but Theo was already dead. They are assuming the other did it, so they're covering for each other without ever actually asking if the other did it. #Corrie." @alisonpinky85 commented: "It's too obvious to be Gary who killed Theo Sarah done it and Gary helped it wife and son but there is deffo something off about Sarah and Garry #corrie." @C70268211 added: "Theory- Sarah made Gary think Todd is the murderer. Theo had Todd's phone so he could have made Sarah think he had Todd held hostage. She sends for Gary. Gary goes in weilding a weapon but finds a crime scene. Now he has to cover it up. Still thinking Todd did it. #corrie."
