Coronation Street fans were left cheering as Carla Connor-Swain returned to screens just in time for Betsy Swain's major progress in her stroke recovery. Viewers declared 'finally' as the character, played by Alison King, made her comeback during Wednesday's (September 2) episode of the ITV soap.

Teenager Betsy was rushed to hospital in July after being found collapsed on the floor at her home, No.6 Coronation Street, by Ryan Connor. Doctors confirmed to Ryan and her mums, Carla and Lisa Connor-Swain, that Betsy had suffered a stroke at the age of 18, before having a second while being treated.
The strokes were caused by a blood clot, resulting from neck artery damage due to a temporary loss of circulation. Betsy later explained to Lisa that her boyfriend, Dylan Wilson, had strangled her during consensual sex, despite both believing the pressure applied was minimal.
First Steps and Fan Reactions
In Wednesday's visit to Weatherfield, with the help of her physiotherapist, Betsy stood up for the first time since her stroke and attempted to take steps, leaving Lisa emotional. Carla arrived during the session and was delighted by the progress, despite Betsy insisting she doesn't want anyone to see her.
