Junade Khan Joins Coronation Street as Idris Nazir
Coronation Street newcomer Idris Nazir, played by Junade Khan, has been at the centre of drama this week on the ITV soap. Idris made his debut on the cobbles in May as the latest member of the Nazir family. He quickly started a romance with Leanne Battersby and recruited Brody Michaelis for his business.
This week, Idris faced backlash after Abi Webster discovered he was her landlord and had been ignoring her calls. The situation worsened with the discovery of black mould in young Alfie's room, leading to Alfie being rushed to A&E.
Junade Khan's Family Life
Actor Junade Khan, 44, is married to wife Gem, a presenter and singer who owns PopGems Academy, an award-winning performing arts school run by the couple. They recently celebrated their tenth wedding anniversary. The couple have two young children: a daughter named Alara-Star and a son named Pacino.
Both children are following in their father's acting footsteps. Speaking before his Coronation Street debut, Junade said: "My mum and mother-in-law watch Coronation Street avidly, so they’re very excited. And my kids are actually on screen more than me! My daughter worked with Angelina Jolie in a film called Anxious People and did a Ridley Scott film, and my little boy has done a Marvel film and Waffle the Wonder Dog. So now there’s me in Corrie - it’s all good!"
Family Visit to the Cobbles
In May, Gem and the children joined Junade on the Coronation Street set, posing for photos at the Rovers Return and Roy's Rolls. Gem wrote on social media: "We loved visiting Jay at work yesterday while it’s half term. Made even more special being the first day his character Idris was arriving on screen. The kids were very excited to stay up late at the hotel and watch Daddy’s arrival on the cobbles with him & spot the places they’d visited! They loved getting involved pulling pints at the Rovers and serving us at Roy’s Rolls. We are all so proud of him. Thank you Corrie for being so kind and welcoming to us all, and thank you to everyone for all the lovely messages and support #KhansOntCobbles."
