Christina Boyd's shocking secret has been exposed on Coronation Street, leaving her future on the ITV soap uncertain. During Friday's episode, it was revealed that Christina had taken out credit cards in the names of Mary Taylor and her ex-husband Lenny, and had been lying about her alibi for the night Theo Silverton died.
George Discovers the Truth
George Shuttleworth, Christina's partner, had suspected she might be cheating on him after weeks of secretive behaviour involving mystery meet-ups, secret messages, and cryptic phone calls. His sister Glenda Shuttleworth found credit card statements in Christina's handbag and warned George that Christina was conning him and others.
On Friday, George confronted Christina after following her to a meeting with a man. Christina explained the man was Lenny, her ex-husband, who had discovered she had taken out a credit card in his name. Lenny found out on the night Theo Silverton died, which is why Christina lied about her alibi—she was meeting with Lenny to discuss the card.
Christina Confesses to Spending Addiction
Christina confessed to taking out credit cards in the names of Mary, Lenny, and even Glenda. She revealed she has a spending addiction, which she described as "a disease." George was initially unsympathetic, but Christina detailed how the addiction had impacted her life and that Lenny had asked her to attend a support group.
Christina admitted she had previously overcome the addiction but relapsed due to recent stress. She begged George not to leave her, and he agreed to attend a support group meeting with her, where she explained her addiction further. George encouraged Christina to take ownership of her actions and vowed to stand by her.
Glenda Exposes Christina to Others
Despite George's support, other characters were less forgiving. Glenda blurted out to Todd Grimshaw and Mary that Christina was a scammer, exposing what she had done. Christina explained the full story and opened up about her addiction. Glenda fumed at George for forgiving Christina and made it clear she did not believe Christina's story.
Mary told Christina she would not take legal action against her, but said Christina had broken her trust and did not accept her apology. With Mary and Glenda refusing to forgive her, and Glenda not ruling out calling the police, Christina may face legal action. This could force her to leave Weatherfield for good, despite George's support.
Coronation Street airs weeknights at 8:30pm on ITV1 and ITV X.
