Coronation Street star Gareth Pierce has been flooded with praise after he revealed he had completed a challenge away from the famous cobbles. The actor, who has also been winning plaudits for his recent portrayal of Todd Grimshaw in the ITV soap, revealed earlier this month that he was taking on a mammoth task away from his hard-hitting storyline on the long-running show.
The Challenge
He took to social media to reveal that he would be taking on the Dragon Ride Medio Fondo, a 154km long cycle with 2345m of climbing, to raise funds for Age UK. He shared the news in a video on Instagram, in which he could be seen getting some practice in, admitting he hadn't had much time due to his commitments to his latest Corrie storyline, thanking fans for the support and feedback on his on-screen work.
Fundraising Effort
Alongside the video post, Gareth wrote on Instagram: "Spinning my legs at this year’s @dragonridewales on SUNDAY 14th JUNE! 154km and over 2000m ascent, raising funds for @age_uk and their ‘Act Now, Age Better’ campaign. He was quickly flooded with support and weeks later, on Monday (June 15), Gareth revealed it was challenge complete. Alongside pictures from the feat, he penned on Instagram: "Wow! Some aching limbs today, but a full heart and full coffers too - thanks to your generous donations. You’ve sent us soaring towards the £1000 mark for @age_uk."
Support from Fans and Co-stars
He added: "Diolch @dragonridewales and all volunteers for hosting such an excellent event & big congrats to all the riders. If you want to keep our fundraising target ticking upwards, the Just Giving link is in bio or donate directly on this post," before the comments came flooding in. Corrie co-star Tanisha Gorey gushed: "Woohoo!!!! We love you!!!!!" @xjeankellyx said: "So proud of you, Gareth! Congratulations on completing your charity cycle for Age UK. What an amazing achievement for such a great cause—you should be really proud of yourself." @_kizzylou_ replied: "Da iawn Gareth what an achievement!" @no1todddefender added: "Such a good cause, well done."
