Coronation Street: Maria Drama Ramps Up as Murderer Unmasked

Coronation Street star Samia Longchambon has hinted at dramatic developments in the ITV soap opera. Appearing on ITV Lorraine on Friday, June 19, hosted by Ruth Langsford, the actress who plays Maria teased an upcoming dinner party that promises explosive revelations.

Dinner Party Drama Intensifies

Samia revealed that the drama will “ramp up” as a murderer is unmasked. After a preview of the scene, she told host Ruth: “Filming it was really awkward but it was loads of fun.” She explained that Maria and Gary are invited to the dinner party by default, as Kit plans to propose to Sarah that night. “Kit didn’t want any of us there, didn’t want any of this to happen,” she added.

Filming the Hour-Long Special

As Ruth noted the episode looks “dark and dramatic,” Samia discussed the filming process: “The first half of the episode is just one scene, it’s an hour-long, so the first 15 minutes is just one scene, which is the scene we’re seeing now, and it’s like a 21-page scene.” She added that the cast had a read-through with the director and blocked it on set a week before filming, calling it “a massive luxury.”

Samia described the pressure of filming: “We broke it down into three sections so the pressure was off a bit, it really ramps up towards the end of the scene. Maria really ramps up at the end of the scene, it was so much fun! I feel like it had been building up because onscreen she’s got her suspicions about Gary and Sarah.”

Murderer Revealed

Confirming that viewers will learn the truth about Theo’s murderer, Samia teased: “It’s going to come out! It’ll be totally out of left-field who it is. There’s so many twists and turns to it. After it comes out, it will have a knock-on effect for lots of different people.”

Fans have expressed excitement on social media, with one writing on Instagram: “Can't wait for this.” Another said: “Looking forward to this,” while a third added: “Very exciting!!!”

Coronation Street airs weekday nights at 8.30pm on ITV1 and ITVX.
