Coronation Street fans quickly realised that the latest Weatherfield newcomer, Fraser, has actually appeared in the long-running show before, as the character is set to cause problems between Glenda Shuttleworth and Todd Grimshaw.
The storyline began earlier this week when Glenda spotted a woman, Celeste, knocking on the door of No.7. Glenda informed her that Dev Alahan and Bernie Winter were away and asked if she could pass on a message, before the woman left. Later, Celeste accosted Todd outside the undertakers, explaining she was looking to arrange a funeral and would like to do it over a drink.
Celeste's funeral plans
During Thursday's (August 20) edition of Corrie, Celeste returned and told a hungover Todd that he was the man she wanted for the funeral she was planning. She did not arrive alone, as her neighbour, Fraser, whom she called her 'PA', joined her. Upon seeing Celeste's male company, Glenda suggested he should pop over to the Rovers while he waited for Celeste to finish her meeting with Todd.
While alone with Todd, Celeste revealed that the funeral is for herself and that she has only six weeks to live. After planning a Dolly Parton-themed service, she collected Fraser from the pub, and Glenda was thrilled when he gave her his number and agreed to a date tomorrow.
Fans recognise actor's previous role
Corrie fans were distracted as they realised they had seen Fraser, or actor Chris Grahamson, in the programme before. He appeared on the cobbles between 2010 and 2011, where he played a church pastor in Sophie Webster's coming out storyline, having been a part of his choir.
Spotting the return, @Fake_TV_Chef said: "Isn't this the pastor who ran the choir Sophie and Sian sang in, and who condemned their relationship, which led to Sophie drinking and falling from the church roof? I know actors can play different roles but what if he's the same character from 10+ years ago? #Corrie." @Patr1ckMcCann replied: "You have a good memory. I just googled it, this is his third role in Corrie." @missmollybruton posted: "Not Sophie and Sian's homophobic pastor showing up as a new character in Corrie 16 years later."
Fraser set to cause problems
Fraser is set to cause problems. In Friday's (August 21) episode of Corrie, Glenda, Mary Taylor, and Christina Boyd chide Todd for his heavy drinking since returning from Thailand. Glenda warns Todd that if he continues to treat his friends like dirt, he won't have a single one left. Upset, when Celeste visits the undertakers and warns Todd that Fraser is gay, Todd forms a plan to get his own back on Glenda.
