Coronation Street Fans Make Emotional Plea for Debbie Webster Ahead of Exit
Coronation Street Fans Plead for Debbie Webster Before Exit

Coronation Street fans have been seen making an emotional plea for Debbie Webster, as they continue to prepare for what will be an inevitable exit for the beloved character.

In April last year, the Chariot Square Hotel owner was seen growing concerned about her memory loss and booked an appointment at a private clinic, believing her symptoms may be related to the menopause. After discussing a series of incidents, shown as flashback scenes, including a blackout and fall, the doctor advised her that he wanted her to have further tests as he was concerned that she was showing symptoms of early-onset vascular dementia.

The diagnosis was later confirmed, coinciding with her half-brother Carl Webster's arrival in Weatherfield, who had only ever been mentioned by name and never seen by Corrie viewers.

As viewers of the ITV soap know, Carl's arrival has since caused nothing but trouble for Debbie. It was only in April that she was freed from behind bars following a successful appeal. It came after she was sentenced to more than two years in prison after she pleaded guilty to dangerous driving and causing the death of local vicar Billy Mayhew following a horror multi-vehicle crash that unfolded back in January. But as those who watch Corrie also know, Debbie wasn't responsible, but she took the blame after she was discovered in the driver's seat, having been moved by Carl, who had stormed out of her wedding to Ronnie Bailey and got behind the wheel, drunk.

When, finally, Carl admitted his guilt over the horror crash, he soon backtracked when Debbie revealed she was his mum, and not his half-sibling as he had grown up believing. The news left bruised Carl wanting to see Debbie punished, and she was sentenced to two years and eight months in prison.

During her time inside, Debbie's health took a hit, but despite numerous run-ins with Carl since, she's since been trying to get her life back on track and enjoy it with her husband and her friends. This was seen during the latest visit to Weatherfield on Monday (June 15), where, after she cancelled a girls' trip to Spain due to her worry about her dementia symptoms, her pals brought the holiday to her. Debbie, Glenda Shuttleworth, Sally Metcalfe, Christina Boyd and Bernie Winter have since been seen caping out at the Chariot Square, sipping cocktails and enjoying their own spa treatments.

And it's fair to say the scenes have delighted Corrie fans, despite them resharing their upset that Debbie won't be able to stick around forever. @DrSwarla2025 said: "We need to have more scenes of Debbie and her friendship group, they give us some much needed comedy and laughs, which are in short supply on Corrie at the moment. #corrie." @Raudedauden replied: "One of the best recent stories is putting all those great women together." @agf1052 shared: "Debbie’s friendships with Glenda, Christina, Sally, Bernie, and Ryan are some of the best things about Corrie at the moment #Corrie." @thatsmypeachx commented: "This is so precious but damn it's going to hurt so much when debbie declines #corrie." @its0l_ added: "I love Debbie and her group of mates, Killing her off is going to bite #Corrie in the a*s."

It comes after Corrie producer Kate Brooks confirmed that fans will be able to enjoy Debbie - and actress Sue Devaney - for a while yet. "There's a lot more fun to be had," she recently told the Manchester Evening News and other press. "You do see her deteriorating and that's really upsetting, but you still see the Debbie that I love to play – the fun Debbie! It's Debbie in all her glory. You see her with her friends and that's lovely." She added: "She's doing all the things that she's always wanted to do in life… Debbie is just happy to be with the people she loves. She'll enjoy having them around and enjoy life at its fullest, but be honest with them too."
