The 2026 Comic-Con officially began in San Diego, drawing thousands of sci-fi, anime and film fans dressed as their favourite characters in detailed cosplay outfits. The multi-day event, which stands for comic book convention, brings together enthusiasts of comic books, anime, gaming, sci-fi, fantasy, films and TV series.
Cosplay highlights from day one
Attendees were spotted wearing a variety of costumes, including two blonde bombshells dressed in Barbie's iconic blue workout set and Margot Robbie's Cowboy Barbie outfit from the 2023 blockbuster. Marvel cosplayer Jay Acey turned up with a spot-on Nick Fury outfit, while Justin Wu was seen dressed as Wolverine.
More characters and attractions
Miguel Capuchino appeared as Beetlejuice and Lucy Capuchino as Lydia Deetz. Mandalorian cosplayers from the Star Wars franchise walked through the convention centre. Sam J. Jones, who played Flash Gordon in the classic 80s action movie, also attended. Some fans went all out with elaborate costumes, including a white rabbit outfit.
The convention, which continues until Sunday, features panel discussions and Q&A sessions with actors, writers, directors and other celebrities. Vendors sell artwork and merchandise related to various franchises. A He-Man display was erected as a photo opportunity, and a giant One Piece figurine was placed in the middle of the convention. The Lego brand set up its own booth, and the K-Pop Demon Hunters display featured Huntrix and The Saja Boys.
