Colin Firth's eldest son, Will Firth, has carved out his own acting career, appearing in films such as Spider-Man and Bridget Jones' Baby, despite his father's initial reservations about the profession.
Will Firth's Acting Debut
Will, born in 1990, made his acting debut at age 12, playing a boy on a tram in the 2002 Spider-Man film. He later appeared in Suddenly Now, Caged and Love Type D, and starred alongside his father in the 2016 blockbuster Bridget Jones' Baby.
Colin Firth, known for roles in Bridget Jones' Diary, Pride and Prejudice, A Single Man and the TV series The Staircase, has three sons: Will, Luca (born 2001) and Matteo (born 2003). Will's mother is ex-actress Megan Tilly.
Father's Concerns
Will previously revealed that his father was “apprehensive” about him getting into acting. Speaking to The Evening Standard in 2015, Will said: “It’s a tough career. It can be emotionally draining, and he was worried for me. He wanted to make sure I knew what I was getting myself into, but he’s supported me all the way. He’s always told me to stay true to myself. I know I can always turn to him for advice.”
Will also noted the differences between them, describing his father as a “classy Englishman” and himself as a “tall gangly Canadian,” adding that his father is better suited for “the romantic lead roles.”
Family Dynamics
Colin also shares Luca and Matteo with ex-wife Livia Giuggioli. Despite their father's fame, the siblings are not fazed by his stardom. Colin told the Mirror in 2015: “My children would tell you that I'm not at all cool or suave, and so my only chance to really become like that is when I'm making a film.”
Speaking to Mindfood in 2015, Colin explained that his role as a spy in Kingsman: The Secret Service was an attempt to appear cooler to his children. “My sons are pretty hard to impress — for me anyway. Although I personally love Mamma Mia, it might not be the coolest thing for teenage kids, so I'm hoping this film might make up for that,” he said.
