2point4 Children's Clare Buckfield: Life After Dec Donnelly Split
Clare Buckfield's Life After Dec Donnelly Split

Clare Buckfield, best known for her role in the BBC sitcom 2point4 Children, has stepped away from the showbiz spotlight to build a new career as a celebrant, officiating at weddings and funerals. The 26-year-old actress, who was in a 10-year relationship with TV presenter Dec Donnelly until their split in 2002, now lives a quieter life in Cambridgeshire.

From 90s Stardom to Heartbreak

Buckfield first became a household name playing Jenny in 2point4 Children, a hugely popular show that followed the lives of the working-class Porter family. The series, which ran until 1999, secured her status as one of TV's brightest young stars.

In 2002, her personal life unravelled when Dec Donnelly, one half of Ant and Dec, hit headlines over an alleged fling with a 23-year-old lap dancer. The couple, who shared a home, had been together for a decade, and Buckfield had hoped for marriage.

Reflecting on the split, she later said: "Nobody can be prepared for something like that. It was horrible, painful and unbelievably difficult. It was as bad as anyone would think it could be. We were together a very long time. I did think it would end up in marriage."

Career Comeback and Dancing on Ice

After the breakup, Buckfield continued acting, appearing in Dangerfield, Doctors and Holby City. She also moved into musical theatre, starring in stage productions including Grease and Little Shop of Horrors.

Her biggest TV comeback came in 2007, when she competed in the second series of ITV's Dancing on Ice. Partnered with Russian skater Andrei Lipanov, she finished as runner-up behind rugby star Kyran Bracken.

New Life as a Celebrant

Since then, Buckfield has embraced life away from fame. On her official website, she explains: "I specialise in creating personalised wedding and funeral ceremonies that cater to the unique needs and preferences of each family. With a focus on delivering an exceptional experience, crafted with heartfelt sincerity."

She highlights her performance background, adding: "With over 25 years experience performing worldwide, from playing intimate fringe venues, to London's West End theatres and nationwide arenas, I promise to deliver your ceremony with the upmost professionalism and charm."

Buckfield is believed to have settled in Cambridgeshire, near her identical twin sister Julie, who is also an actress. She became a mother in 2013 with the birth of her son, Johnny.
