X Factor Star Chico Slimani's Devastating Financial Loss and Remarkable Reinvention

X Factor icon Chico Slimani has bravely revealed how he was conned out of "everything" he owned in a catastrophic Dubai investment scam, only to rebuild his life and career from the ground up. The singer, who shot to fame two decades ago with his hit single "Chico Time", found himself financially ruined after the Middle Eastern venture collapsed, but has since transformed into a celebrated wellness entrepreneur.

The Dubai Investment That Cost Him Everything

In a candid interview, the 54-year-old entertainer explained that he and several friends invested substantial sums into a Dubai-based opportunity at the end of 2014. "That was a time when we invested money, lots of friends of ours, in Dubai," Chico recalled. "And unfortunately, we got conned, and we lost everything." The scam wiped out much of the wealth he had accumulated from his chart success and numerous television appearances, leaving him to start completely anew.

The Moroccan-born star described the experience as a pivotal moment that forced him to reconsider his path. "It was a case of like, 'okay, you've obviously got a bigger plan for me type of thing'. I always thought, all right, that wasn't meant to be," he reflected, demonstrating the philosophical outlook that would guide his recovery.

From Pop Star to Fitness Pioneer: The Birth of BlockFit

Rather than allowing the devastating financial blow to defeat him, Chico channeled his energy into creating BlockFit, an innovative fitness programme that combines dance, combat, high-intensity yoga, and meditation set to original music. This venture proved so successful that it was adopted by Bannatyne's Health Clubs, featuring in 69 gyms nationwide for several years.

"It was a natural transition because I've been in the health and fitness industry all my life really at one time or another," Chico explained about his career shift. "It's about getting the right knowledge as to how your body works, how your mind works, and how you can become the best version of yourself."

Overcoming Personal Tragedy to Help Others

The Dubai scam wasn't the only adversity Chico has faced in recent years. In 2018, he suffered a devastating stroke, and during the pandemic, he tragically lost several friends under the age of 50 to suicide. These experiences deepened his commitment to mental health and wellbeing, leading him to develop breathwork techniques he describes as "your doctor, therapist, spiritual master all in one."

This focus on helping others struggling with anxiety and depression inspired him to make his techniques available online for free before establishing his first wellness retreat in Morocco's Atlas Mountains. His retreat business has since expanded dramatically, with Chico now hosting 20 retreats annually across the globe, from the United Kingdom to Thailand and Bali.

"It was really amazing to see people come as one person laden with troubles, worries, anxieties, all sorts of stuff, and then walking away as a totally different person with tools that they could use for their everyday," he said of the retreat experiences.

Reflecting on X Factor and Hopes for a Sharon Osbourne Reunion

Despite the challenges he has faced, Chico retains fond memories of his time on X Factor and expressed a desire to reconnect with his former mentor, Sharon Osbourne. Although he admitted he hasn't heard from her in years despite attempts to make contact, he spoke warmly of both Sharon and her late husband, rock legend Ozzy Osbourne.

"I would have loved to have just got in touch when it was the passing of the icon and the legend that is Ozzy because I absolutely adore him," Chico said, reflecting on the loss seven months after Ozzy's death.

Chico Slimani's journey from pop sensation to financial ruin and subsequent rebirth as a wellness authority stands as a powerful testament to resilience and reinvention in the face of profound personal and professional setbacks.
