Actress Cheryl Hall, known for roles in EastEnders, The Bill, and Citizen Smith, has died aged 76. Her former partner, actor and singer Robin Askwith, confirmed the news on social media.

Taking to X, Askwith, who dated Hall for three years in the 1970s, wrote: 'What a force of nature she was. A really innovative working class, charismatic actress coming out of the late 60s. Brave in every way.'
'And now I have the sad news she has passed away. I am devastated…'

Alongside his post, he attached a photo of himself with Hall from his stint in the 70s comedy series Confessions.
Career highlights
Following the end of her relationship with Askwith, Hall was married to Robert Lindsay from 1974 to 1980 after they appeared in Citizen Smith as an on-screen couple. Hall played Shirley Johnson, the girlfriend of Wolfie Smith, in the sitcom, which ran for four seasons from 1977 to 1980.
Her other acting credits included On the Buses, in which she portrayed Eileen in one of her first TV appearances. She went on to feature in Doctor Who as Shirna, played Christine in eight episodes of EastEnders in the late 80s, and was Sadie in 12 episodes of The Bill.
Later roles and legacy
Following her first stint in the police drama from 1984 to 1988, Hall returned to The Bill in 2007, this time as the character Pauline Smith. Her CV also credited her with roles in more of some of television's most popular shows, such as Poirot, Inspector Morse, Grange Hill, Casualty, and Silent Witness.
Film-wise, she was in To Catch a Spy (1971), The Love Ban (1974), and Three for All (1975), among others. Beyond acting, Hall served as the Labour Leader of Kent County Council.
