Emmerdale star Charley Webb shared her candid thoughts on sexuality during a recent appearance on the Live, Laugh, Luke podcast. The 38-year-old actress, best known for her role as Debbie Dingle on the ITV soap, discussed bisexuality while reacting to listener confessions.
Charley Webb on Sexuality and Acceptance
When host Luke Hamnett asked if she could relate to a listener's confession about questioning their bisexuality, Webb responded: “I mean … yeah. If that’s the way that you want to go, I just think everybody should just totally be who they are. I have no issue with anybody being with anyone. It’s all about the vibes, it’s all about the energy, do what you want.”
She added: “I actually think so many girls vibe with a girl, and maybe it’s less extreme than two guys. I just think [it’s] because girls relate so well to each other.”
Luke then suggested that “everyone is a bit bi,” to which Charley agreed: “I 100% have said this. I do wonder if it is more of a girl thing than a guy thing. My brother [Jamie Lomas] is so straight.”
She also addressed the concept of coming out: “But also, it’s this thing of it being something that you have to discuss, this coming out thing. It’s like, what are you talking about? What do you mean coming out? You’re dating a girl or you’re dating a guy, you’re not coming out - well, they are, but it shouldn’t be a thing. Just do what you want. That is something that has to be gone, it has to be gone.”
Friendship with Sheridan Smith
Elsewhere in the podcast, Webb opened up about her close friendship with actress Sheridan Smith. The pair grew closer after Webb's marriage to former co-star Matthew Wolfenden ended in 2023. They have three children together: Buster, Bowie, and Ace.
Webb explained that they first met through the industry years ago but reconnected later. Despite rumors of a falling out after they unfollowed each other on social media, Webb insisted they are still close: “We’ve literally just been inseparable ever since. I was working in London and we just ended up spending so much time together. I just see her all the time.”
She described their bond: “We spend so much time together, we’re always together. We can lay on the bed and not speak for an hour and I’m like, ‘Oh s***, I forgot you were there. We’re just scrolling on Instagram.’ We are really different in our personalities, I would say, but it just really works.”
Webb added: “We can have like two hours of chat, or be so talkative and laughing - we laugh so much - but then we can have our quiet time. I don’t need any social battery.”
