Channel 4 is set to air a 'ground-breaking' true crime documentary tonight, chronicling how digital detectives brought a killer to justice after he fled to Greece.
Digital Forensics Unravel Ormskirk Stabbing
The episode, part of season two of Murder Case: The Digital Detectives, airs at 9pm on Thursday, August 6. It focuses on the fatal stabbing of 19-year-old Matthew Daulby outside a bar in Ormskirk, Lancashire, on 29 July 2023.
The official synopsis reveals how detectives used digital forensics to uncover the events of that night, with a social media group chat flagging the names of two men who were also recorded talking about the stabbing in a churchyard.
Attack Details and Convictions
During the trial, CCTV showed Henry Houghton striking Daulby with a makeshift weapon—a tied-up sock containing a rock. Lancashire Police stated he struck the victim 'with such force that it caused damage to his brain and likely disorientated him'.
Thomas Dures then fatally stabbed Daulby, who died in hospital. Houghton received a minimum 20-year sentence in 2024. Dures evaded capture for 18 months before turning himself in at a police station in Greece, later being convicted of murder at Preston Crown Court in 2025 and handed a minimum 23-year sentence.
